Episode 4

Currently on Mallory Rock...

Gwen broke into the Navigators Club, and after a close call with a security camera, she found out that Sam, not Beth, was the one to break into the club previously. That means Sam couldn't have killed Beth.

Now Gwen's ready to eliminate another suspect and thinks it might be time to unlock the CORA folder on Beth's KeepSafe link and see what information is hidden inside.

Hints

Bridge Trauma Group Email Thread

  • It's a shame we can't just email Beth.
  • What happens if you click the email link?
  • Did you get a response from Rocksteady? What did it say?
  • When does the therapy group meet each week?
  • What night was Beth murdered? Was anything happening on the island that night?
  • Based off of the info in these emails, is there a suspect who has an evidenced alibi?

CORA Locked Folder

  • The CORA locked folder is in Beth's KeepSafe on the virtual desktop. First, log into her KeepSafe account using the password you discovered in Episode 2: IWUF.
  • Remember, Beth set this 4-character password and the password prompt: "The departed shifts in the reflection of the year."
  • Beth seems to set passwords with 4 characters - remember the password from Episode 2?
  • Is there an item associated with Beth that has something to do with "departed" or "reflection"?
  • Who did Beth name the folder after?
  • Is there a year you can shift?
  • "...in the reflection of the year." What happens to the letters or numbers when they are reflected?
  • What if you try the year in reverse?

Encoded Notes

  • Each note has specific words encoded. Look back at your investigation guide.
  • The constellations on these notes can also be found on the vote record. The Navigators sure do love Edgar Mallory. Perhaps he has the key to a clearer picture.
  • Count the number of stars for each note.
  • To figure out the encoded words, you'll need to shift backward (since the encoding process shifts forward).

Reveals

Bridge Trauma Group Email Thread

  • If you click the email hyperlink in the Rocksteady email signature, an email will trigger, which you can send to Rocksteady. Type a message and see the response.
  • The Rocksteady Support Network meets every Friday from 9 PM to 10 PM.
  • There is a testimonial from Belinda Smitson that acknowledges Reverend Reaver being present at the group's meeting the Friday night that fireworks were being tested (the night Beth was murdered).
  • Reverend Reaver can be eliminated as a suspect. Open the Contact shortcut to send a message to Gwen with the subject line SECOND SUSPECT. In the body of the message, type Clarence Reaver.

CORA Locked Folder

  • Cora was the name of Reverend Reaver's twin sister who died (departed) in 1979.
  • The year on the pocket mirror, 1979, in reverse (reflected) would read 9791.
  • Shift each letter C-O-R-A by 9-7-9-1 forward, as Beth would have, to discover the encoded password.
  • The password is L-V-A-B.

Encoded Notes

  • For each encoded note, the words can be decoded by shifting each letter backward in the alphabet by the number of stars in each constellation (11 and 14). For example, the letter A shifted 14 times becomes the letter M.
  • When decoded correctly, the 11-star note reads:

    • My patience wears thin. Your reassurance was given several months ago, and I gave you my vote on the Bridge issue, as promised. Have you found anything concrete on Anchor Management yet? The Rocksteady needs a financial boost right now - winning a lawsuit or a settlement would help us immensely.

      Please make this a priority.
  • When decoded correctly, the 14-star note reads:

    • Picked up files from mom and left them in my desk drawer. Before you ask again, I didn't look at them. As always.
I don't understand why you let mom handle your papers but you won't let me. I've followed everything you say, and I would have known which way to vote even if you hadn't told me. I don't need to be micromanaged anymore. What else do you need for me to prove to you that I'm good enough?

Solution

  • The locked CORA folder on Beth's KeepSafe features the password prompt "The departed shifts in the reflection of the year." Consulting Clarence's letter and the pocket mirror reveals the year Reverend Reaver's twin sister, Cora, passed away: 1979. Reflected (as in a mirror), this year would appear as 9791. Shifting each letter of Cora's name by each respective number (C 9 times, O 7 times, R 9 times, and A 1 time) to encode as Beth did reveals the password to the locked folder: LVAB.
  • Unlocking this folder provides access to the full bridge proposal intended for the Town Council, an accounting screenshot, and the bridge group email thread. These files shed more light on Beth's involvement with the new bridge project, her investigation into a company called Anchor Management, and potential conflicts with some of the suspects.
  • The bridge group email thread also includes a link to email Rocksteady Support Network. Sending this group an email through the Contact shortcut will trigger an automatic response with some general information about the support group and some member testimonials. The Rocksteady Support Network meets every Friday from 9 PM to 10 PM. There is also a testimonial from Belinda Smitson that acknowledges Reverend Reaver was present at the group's meeting the Friday night that fireworks were being tested (the night Beth was murdered). Therefore, Reverend Reaver has an alibi and can be eliminated as a suspect.
  • To complete this episode, open the Contact shortcut on the virtual desktop and send a new message to Gwen with the subject line SECOND SUSPECT. In the body of the message, type Clarence Reaver.
