Cassette Tape Case
-
There is a drawing of a fox and a rabbit on the insert, both dead with a knife plunged into some part of them.
- Could this have belonged to Manny?
- The dead animal drawings tie in with his little taxidermy hobby.
- Manny's obituary states he had a "large collection of jazz cassette tapes".
-
In his letter, Jasper states that Manny was a fan of Monk. All but one of these songs was performed by Thelonious Monk.
-
The only song not performed by Thelonious Monk, but performed by Dizzy Gillespie, is "Manteca".
- "Manteca" is the password for the hidden archive we can access on the Listening Friends of America website.
Clock Face Print
-
There is a "radian circle" puzzle (similar to that in Episode 2) in the clock hands.
- The print is very small and is intended to be read using the jeweler's loupe.
-
Using the grasshopper print from Episode 2, find the corresponding letters using the "radians".
-
After decoding what letters each time equals, list the times in chronological order, earliest to latest.
-
The outcome of the decoded message reveals:
- "AM I THE CURE OR AM I THE DISEASE"
-
"Disease" is the title of the hidden archive we can access this episode on the Listening Friends of America website.
Jeweler's Loupe
- The loupe was a "parting gift" to Jasper from Sylvia.
-
The loupe can be used on two accompanying items.
- It can be used to read the small print on the clock face print.
- It can also be used on the logo of the sheriff's letter.
Letter from Jasper
- Wow, Manny was a monster. If what Jasper says about him is true, Manny deserved what he got.
- Jasper mentions Jazz artists Dizzy [Gillespie] and [Thelonious] Monk.
-
Did Jasper choose to become mute after he was locked up?
- He says "our friendship" is the only communication he's had with a living person in quite some time.
-
Did Sylvia's letters arrive in the past and are not presently being sent to him?
- He says he wishes he heard something from her again.
Letter from Sheriff
- Why does the sheriff bring up Pestilence?
- "The horseman on the white horse was clad in a showy and barbarous attire. [...] While his horse continued galloping, he was bending his bow in order to spread pestilence abroad. At his back swung the brass quiver filled with poisoned arrows, containing the germs of all diseases."
-
If the jeweler's loupe is used to study the logo on this letter (in the top-left corner), two differences can be noticed when compared to the logo on previous letters from the sheriff.
- There is a downward arrow in the wheel of the carriage. This represents the poison arrows Pestilence carried around for his bow.
- The horse's mane is white compared to black in the previous logos. This represents the white horse Pestilence rode.
Letter from Sylvia
- Sylvia finally found out the truth about Jasper, and she was appalled.
-
Who was the man from LFoA?
- Was it Felix?
-
Why did Jasper kill the museum guard?
- Did the guard somehow wrong Jasper, or was he an abhorrent person, as was Manny?
-
In this letter, Sylvia reveals she gave Jasper the jeweler's loupe.
-
Sylvia reveals she is leaving town and places the correspondences between her and Jasper at a time shortly before he joined the pen pal program.
Listening Friends of America Letter
- Why does Meg go from referring to herself in the first person to the third person in her inspector notes of this letter?
-
In this letter, Meg says she finished the LFoA Bozeman directory and promises we will receive it in our next package.
- Why does she feel we would need a directory?
-
Why does Meg keep referring to fidelity, copies, and originals
Newspaper Article
-
Just WHAT?! on Meg's inspector notes of this item...
- Why no punctuation?
- What bench?
-
This article reveals that the body in the first newspaper article (from Episode 1) was the museum guard.
- How did a murder at a museum lead to the residence of a pawn shop owner? If the case ran cold, would they really just go knocking door to door, looking for suspects?
-
If Manny was so "popular" at his shop and had been missing for a couple of weeks, why had no one reported him missing?
-
The property owner had still received rent, despite Manny being dead before the payment.
- This means Jasper was smart enough to keep up appearances and not raise immediate suspicions of Manny's "disappearance".
- He wanted to take his time with Manny's corpse.
-
The property owner revealed that Jasper was Manny's roommate at the time of Manny's murder.
-
How was there enough evidence to convict Jasper of Manny's murder but not the guard's if the MO was the exact same?
- Was Jasper locked up just for being the prime suspect and being Manny's roommate (having access to the victim)?
- Did Jasper confess to one or both murders?
Note from Felix
- Felix comments on the sheriff's change of course.
-
He mentions our mutual friend down at the archives.
- Who is this person?
- Is it Will F. (Will Fox - 1973 premium case)?
-
Felix still believes Jasper will slip up and make a mistake.
- We only have one month left for that to happen!
-
Why does Felix refer to it as a "Family" in Bozeman?
Obituary
-
The obituary says Manny "passed away".
- HA!
-
The obituary corroborates Jasper's statement of Manny practicing taxidermy.
-
They put such a HAPPY spin on this creep! Actually trying to paint him as a decent human being. Piece of filth.

- Patient Letter: Letter from Jasper. He is really starting to sound like a genius, is he not? Jasper Jasper
- Cassette Case: Do they even make these any more? I cannot believe Jasper has eld on to this for all these years. This must have belonged to Manny. I wonder what makes these songs significant?
- Letter from an Outside Friend (Sylvia): How sad that Sylvia decided to leave town. This must have been just before Jasper got assigned his new Listening Friend.
- Obituary: Poor Manny. From what I understand, he probably deserved it. Poor Jasper.
- News Article: They finally found the killer it was Jasper oh no that poor bench
- Loupe: A loupe of a jeweler, useful for seeing the detail of very small things. I suppose this was something Jasper has kept from his days at Carte du Monde.
- Clock Face Print: What a crafty and artistic person Jasper is. So much detail, so precise. I wonder if he did this by hand?
