Past
Nikita: Pavel... Victor is gone.
Pavel: Gone?
*Nikita stares at his brother, then looks down*
Pavel: Brother... what... happened?
Nikita: So... so... much.
Present Day
Nikita: I told my brother everything that just happened... I remember everything like it was yesterday, both of us felt like we lost yet another father...
But after a long upsetting conversation... we decided to go to Victor's house and take some items to remember him by.
That was the moment... that our world really flipped upside-down. That's when we found... the letter.
I just can't live with this burden anymore. I took you in 13 years ago when your parents disappeared...
But what you don't know is that I'm the reason they are gone. I didn't mean for that to happen, but it did. It's too much to bear day in... and day out. Goodbye.
Victor
Past
Nikita: Pavel... he told me about this in the car. He said he was sorry for ruining my life.
Pavel: That night all those years ago, when we were children... it was me who led us here, I wanted to go to Victor's house... I unknowingly knocked on the door of our parents' killer...
Nikita: I had... my biggest moment of weakness... when he jumped out of the car.
I couldn't help but yell out and cry in both sadness and anger... It was unreal, brother.
Pavel: Niki... it's okay to be sad and angry. I know I am... I have no idea what to think of this letter...
Nikita: He didn't say he killed our parents... but this really makes it seem that way...
Pavel: Your memory is impeccable; do you remember the timeline of all of this? Could it really have been Victor this whole time?
Nikita: That's what's puzzling... I feel like he would have left so much more evidence. We both know Victor isn't a genius.
Pavel: Remember that night in the storm when you saved my life?
Nikita: How could I forget?
Pavel: The evidence of my fight... it was all gone the next morning...
Nikita: Just like at our parents' house all those years ago...
Pavel: Nikita... maybe it was the mob, but why? Were our parents bad people???
Nikita: And how does Victor fit into all of this? I can't think straight... my mind is clouded.
Pavel: It seems like life is really just a sequence of loss. The question isn't if we lose... but when.
Nikita: Not when, but why.
*Pavel nods at Nikita*
*Nikita sighs*
Nikita: So, what now?
Pavel: Forensics.
Nikita: I guess... and what about you?
Pavel: The mob evades punishment because those that try to punish them have to follow rules.
Nikita: It's true... there's very little we can do about that.
*Pavel stares at Nikita*
Pavel: Unless we don't play by the rules.
Nikita: I'll just be dealing with evidence collection and analysis; there's not really much I can do...
Pavel: You'll find out who these crooks are... and those that escape justice will meet us.
Nikita: Hmm, so you're saying... If the police don't have enough evidence... that's where you come in?
*Pavel nods slowly*
Pavel: Life is loss, brother. Maybe our purpose... is to make this life more livable for the rest of humanity...
Nikita: We lost our parents... for... a reason, we were meant to do bigger things.
Pavel: Through loss we have found our purpose.
*A sad look covers Nikita's face*
Nikita: It's taken so much to learn...
*Pavel looks at the letter*
Pavel: Victor... the darkness hiding in plain sight... right in front of us.
*Nikita's eyes close*
Nikita: What a life.
Present Day
Nikita: The next phase began at that moment... my brother and I wanted to fight crime.
Jenna: Nikita Volkov... one of the most successful crime lords of all time... fighting crime. That's... so hard to wrap my mind around.
Nikita: Jenna, this goes far deeper than you think... My brother and I began fighting crime after Victor's death...
But the reason it all becomes a twisted enigma... is because...
I've never stopped fighting crime.
