I'm going directly into the heart of the Triad... How did we get to this point?
2
*Follow Roman inside of Lukshon*
Roman: Li, pat him down...
*Li gives you a stern look... because you look familiar.*
Li: He's good, boss.
*Continue following Roman in Lukshon*
Roman: Thank you, Mr. Li, and can you call Akima and Jason to arrange that meeting?
*Stay silent*
Li: Yes, of course, Roman.
This place is larger than I thought...
*Continue following Roman*
Inside Lukshon
- 🔍Do I remember my way out?
- 🔍So where are the drugs held...?
- 🔍There are bodyguards at every turn.
- 🔍I wonder if the Asian men told Roman that they saw me here a couple weeks ago...
- 🔍This could be the Triad headquarters.
- 🔍What if I'm walking to my own death?
- 🔍Maybe I should ask Roman if he knows Antonio.
3
I've already taken many turns, but I could find my way out if I searched long enough. I can't believe how large the substructure of Lukshon is... there are so many rooms and passageways. There's probably more than one entrance as well.
4
They could be anywhere... I bet there's a lot more than just drugs in this place. I wouldn't be surprised if the Triad traded weapons as well.
5
This place is more secure than I had originally thought. It makes sense if the Triad boss has his meetings here and dealers get drugs from here.
6
This would probably be quite suspicious in Roman's eyes. But he already guessed that I was an investigator of some kind, so would he really be that shocked?
7
Hmm, but probably not because I think the guards at the front would have made a bigger deal about me coming in the first time without an "appointment".
8
What other alternatives do I have? Leave Lukshon? I guess, but then I still face the same issue, a Mexican assassin is coming for me, and he has more resources than I do.
9
I will have to give some details to Roman, otherwise he won't believe that there are any threats to his business. I need to convince him that the cartel is not a good business partner and will betray him.
10
This meeting room is quite far.
Roman: We're almost there.
*Keep following Roman*
Roman: I like the way these hallways echo... Sometimes, you can hear very faint footsteps, and... you have no idea where they are coming from. An eerie feeling comes over me... it's interesting.
Jonathan: There are small mirrors everywhere, why?
Roman: When your business is worth billions, every single defensive measure must be taken...
Jonathan: So, this maze of hallways is to confuse outsiders who come in here?
Roman: That's just one of its purposes.
Jonathan: How come you're telling me all of this?
Roman: You're not a threat to me... I sense your fear and weakness, and maybe you really do have useful information for me.
Jonathan: It's true, we can be mutually beneficial for each other.
Roman: Mhmm, either you're an incredibly bad conman or, as your body language suggests, you have a serious issue with my "business partners".
*Keep listening*
Roman: Since you've come this far, you aren't stupid, and I haven't given you any trouble... and you weren't wearing a wire. So...
*Keep listening*
Roman: I have my own theories about the cartel... but I want to hear what you have to say.
Jonathan: That's a pretty good deduction. You pick up on a lot of details.
Roman: It's brittle at best... I'm genuinely interested in what you have to say, but I'll be quite angry if you waste my time.
Analyze Roman
- 🔍Roman will be very hard to fool...
- 🔍My plan needs to paint a bad light on the cartel.
- 🔍He might be one of the most analytical people I've ever met.
- 🔍I wonder why he never worked as a detective.
- 🔍I haven't seen Roman's bad side.
- 🔍My best bet is to twist the truth ever so slightly.
11
I might need to be more truthful than my original plan required. If I mess up and things don't add up, Roman will immediately pick up on it.
12
He already assumes this is why I want to talk to him... I think if I feed his ego it could help me. No one can resist compliments, and what he said was pretty close to what I was planning on telling him anyways.
13
It's almost like everything he says has some plan associated with it, some hidden meaning... some reason. He figured out so much about me just by sitting with me at the cafe for 15 minutes. I can't help but admire Roman's intellect.
14
Roman would be the detective of the century, but he's on the other side of the spectrum... he's a criminal boss. I guess both professions require a lot of foresight and deductive reasoning skills.
15
He mentioned many times how if I waste his time, he will be angry... I wonder what his angry side is like. He doesn't seem like a violent man, but then again, I hardly know this man.
16
My plan will be to tell almost the entire truth. I will also have to give up all of my information on both the Triad and the Sinaloa... this alone will be appealing to Roman... I'm sure of it.
Enter the Meeting Room
- 🔍This room is covered in black foil.
- 🔍How large is this room?
- 🔍This seems overly secure.
- 🔍Analyze Roman's body language.
17
I can tell it is metallic because it is very reflective, and it felt cold to touch. Roman is leading me into a faraday cage... but why?
18
It is a very normal-sized room, about 15 feet by 15 feet... this room reminds me of an interrogation room.
19
All of this trouble just to talk? Roman really takes his secrecy seriously. I wonder what sort of meetings take place in here.
20
He took a seat and is ready to talk about the Sinaloa. This entire time he has been very calm. Nothing appears aggressive or combative about him. I think Roman is not inherently violent, but I'm sure he gives violent orders. Roman also maintains very strong eye contact with whom he speaks with, this asserts his dominance over them.
Conclude Investigation
1. Why is the meeting room concerning?
- The room is very deep underground
- The room is very hard to find
- The room is a Faraday cage
- It's so far inside Lukshon that I couldn't escape if I wanted to...
2. Why are mirrors installed in the hallways?
- To confuse people that haven't been to Lukshon before
- So that guards can easily see around corners
- To allow light rays to bounce lighting up all the hallways
3. What is the purpose of the Faraday cage?
- Stop heat signatures from being traced within the room
- Stop any kind of signal from entering the room
- Stop sound from entering or escaping the room
- It is a shield against electromagnetic pulses
4. What will most likely convince Roman to help me?
- Tell him the cartel is planning an attack on the Triad
- Give up all of my information on the cartel and the Triad
- Tell Roman that he has a weak link... which is Connor Oswald
Roman: So, what was so important that we had to meet today... Why couldn't this wait? Take a seat here... and explain, please.
First, I'll tell him that the Sinaloa were very angry after the meeting at Lukshon, and that they called their boss to tell him about it.
Roman: That's understandable... There was an argument about pricing...
Right... but what is concerning is that Antonio stayed in town. I know he stayed in town to kill Mark, but I will say he's here for the Triad instead.
Roman: Antonio... I don't think I know this man. He's an assassin, interesting, but... I'm not afraid of one assassin.
Now, I'll tell him that Antonio was in the meeting at Lukshon, so he knows where this place is. This should convince him that Antonio is dangerous.
Roman: Ah, I see, so you want me to take out Antonio... You've highlighted why he's a possible threat for me... but what's in it for you?
I can reveal to Roman that Antonio is very dangerous and killed my client.
Roman: To be fair, I know of a few assassins that can cause huge problems... But is Antonio really a threat? Or are you just afraid of him because he killed your client?
I'll tell Roman I'm fighting to bring down the cartel, and that it is in his best interest not to do business with them... and they might strike first, and deal a lot of damage to the Triad business.
Roman: I'm already having some issues with the cartel because they keep raising prices and demanding more money...
Perfect, but now I need to tell Roman that Antonio meets with his boss on Mondays in the restaurant, Los Carnales, in San Diego, around dinnertime.
Roman: So, if I do this... and take out the cartel boss and assassin, I'll need something more from you. This deal places too much risk on me.
I'll give up all of my files and findings on both the Sinaloa and the Triad to Roman... It's the only way.
Roman: How quickly can you get me this information? Today is already Sunday evening, so I only have one day before Antonio meets with his boss in San Diego.
I need to tell him the data will be sent to the DEA and LAPD automatically unless I am alive to stop the transfer... This way, I can't be killed after I show him my files.
Roman: Hmm, I will think about it... I need to think about the outcomes. You'll know your answer soon enough. I'll have Li escort you out, thank you.
No!! I need an answer! I don't think I convinced him! What more can I offer... I need his help, it's my only way out of the crosshairs of the Sinaloa.
I have to tell him I nearly found Rich... because I know Rich was taken by the Triad, maybe this will scare him into helping me.
Roman: Rich Rivera... Yes, I remember that situation, what a messy way to handle it as well. Okay, Mr. Investigator... you have a deal.
I hope Roman keeps his word. I'll hide somewhere on the outskirts of LA where the cartel will never find me. Maybe I can put all of this behind me after tomorrow...
