Case 7.1: Mitch Reese

1

Mark and April don't know who Mitch is, so I'm on my own for this one.

2

I should be able to find Mitch's location on the web, I'll do a background check.

I already found out his full name, from Rich's social media. It is: Mitch Reese.

*Run background check on Mitch Reese*

This should give me plenty of information.

Background Check

3

He lives in downtown Los Angeles, right next to Huntington Park.

4

Mitch works as a marketing analyst for a retail store named Office-Mart.

5

Mitch has a criminal record, interesting, all of my other subjects except Mark Rivera were completely clean.">

Criminal Record

6

Mitch Reese is currently 25 years old.

7

This was difficult to find, and there are many of them, I think I will stick to just investigating Mitch first.

8

There is an assault case. It is between him and Rich Rivera! Mitch and Rich had a falling out and they got into a fight...

9

The charges were dropped because there wasn't substantial proof and Rich's memory failed him, because he was intoxicated.

10

December 21st, 2006 was when Mitch was charged with assault, which allegedly occurred on December 19th, 2006.

11

I need to talk to Mitch.

I want to hide the fact that he is a suspect.

*Drive to Mitch's apartment*

I don't know which unit he is living in...

I can look at the mailboxes.

Mitch is in unit 12.

*Buzz apartment number 12*

A scratchy voice answers, "Who's there?"

Jonathan: Hi, is this Mitch?

Mitch: Yes...

Jonathan: Can you help me? I'm investigating Rich Rivera's disappearance.

Mitch: I don't know much, but sure.

*A loud beep emerges from the speaker and the door unlocks*

I should conceal the fact that I know Mitch was aggressive to Rich.

12

*Knock on Mitch's door*

Mitch: Hi, detective.

Jonathan: I'm actually just an investigator.

Mitch: Oh, okay, cool.

Jonathan: I have a prime suspect, not you, don't worry. But what can you tell me about Emma Windale?

Mitch: Emma Windale, yeah, she was a good friend. She was Rich's girlfriend.

Jonathan: Right, and also, someone told me that you were best friends with Rich.

Mitch: I mean, we were good friends, up until he was gone, like... yeah, we were close.

Jonathan: I can imagine, so can you tell me anything about the day he vanished?

Mitch: Well, I actually don't know that much. Um, maybe Emma knows?

Jonathan: I thought you just said you were really close up until the day he vanished?

Mitch: Yeah, but I guess not too close. We had a small disagreement.

Jonathan: A disagreement?

Mitch: It's kind of a personal thing, you know.

Jonathan: Okay, new question. Also, do you have any coffee?

Mitch: Sure, let me get some. I might need to make some, let me see.

Quickly Look Around

13

It's locked, damn, it was a shot in the dark, I didn't think I'd actually get in his phone.

14

These are all family pictures; I think he is an only child.

15

There's another cell phone... it is also locked. He has two cell phones or someone else lives here... but this is a single apartment.

16

So, he doesn't have a girlfriend living with him, this is all boy stuff. There's a hole in his wall about the size of a fist... he has a temper.

17

A reply from the kitchen, "Sure."

There are things for both a girl and a boy in this bathroom. So, he does have a girl that comes here, but doesn't live with any... okay, that's not weird though.

18

The internet search history is a tiny bit funny. There are pages and pages of internet searches such as, "How to get girls", "Impressing a girl", "Being a more attractive guy". I better not look at this too long, he might catch me.

19

*Wait for Mitch to come back with the coffee*

Mitch: Here you go, you want cream?

Jonathan: No, but thank you so much, kind sir. So, anyway, I have a prime suspect.

Mitch: Yeah, for sure, and who might that be?

Jonathan: I'm getting a strange feeling about Tyler or Emma.

Mitch: Really? I thought he and Tyler were so close though, man that's insane...

Jonathan: I think this is a homicide case, too.

Mitch: After 2 years, a lot of us think that. It sucks... I never thought something like this would happen.

Jonathan: Yeah, alright, I'm going to look into Emma more. My name is Josh Jordan.

Mitch: Okay, see you later. I'll call if I remember anything else, Josh.

*Leave Mitch's apartment*

Mitch... he lied quite a bit.
