The hidden message on the coffee filter can be decrypted by using a bifid cipher, which combines a typical Polybius square with transposition. A typical Polybius is a Polybius square without an extra key.

John William James Letter

  • When the correct 1's and 0's have been identified, they can be grouped into sets of eight and translated using the binary system. The translated message is "SrSO" and the character for decimal 4. SrSO4 is the chemical formula for strontium sulfate, which naturally occurs in the mineral Celestine. The largest geode in the world is made of Celestine and is located in Put-in-Bay, Ohio.

Slip of Paper

  • The decrypted message is "whispersfromtheodorus.com."
  • On the Whispers from Theodorus website, there is a search bar on the front page. Searching "Incipere", the Latin word found in this note, reveals a password-protected page. Incipere's English translation "begin" is the password. This reveals a post written by JWJ, which provides additional hints about this episode.
