Hints
Bible Verse Puzzle
- Gwen put a link on the desktop to help with this puzzle.
- Isn't it odd there's no #6 on the list? Perhaps those numbers are counting something else.
- There is an investigation guide on the desktop to help with codes and ciphers.
- Don't forget, although you're looking at a website, the bible is still considered a book.
Body Location
- There's an article in The Lantern Magazine that has a connection to the accident report.
- You can find helpful information about riptides on Mallory Rock's town website.
- Maps are fun to draw on. Don't forget to use yours.
- Kids are so smart these days. It's crazy what you can learn from the simplest middle school science fair project.
- The Mallory Rock tourist tips brochure can help you name those places you can't find on a map.
Reveals
Bible Verse Puzzle
- This puzzle is a book cipher.
- The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are referring to words within each verse, not the verse itself.
- The revealed phrase is: "I must try to forgive her."
Body Location
- The accident report provides the location of where Beth's body was discovered. There is an article in The Lantern Magazine about a sea kayak being lost in a riptide on the eastern side of the island. The kayak was recovered at the same location where Beth's body was found. The article refers to the town website for more information about riptides.
- The digital map on the town website safety page features places known to have riptides surrounding Mallory Rock. This will narrow down the possible locations to 4.
- The winning science fair project on the town website shows where messages in a bottle landed when placed into the water. This will provide 3 possible places, which, when cross-referenced with the riptide locations, will further reduce to 1 (grid 20R).
- Your Mallory Rock map does not have a name associated with the location identified (grid 20R). But the Mallory Rock tourist tips brochure lists the surrounding landmarks around the location in its description of the Vanishing Beach. The Vanishing Beach is the correct location. Open the Contact shortcut on the desktop and send a new message to Gwen with the subject line ISLAND. In the body of the message, type Vanishing Beach.

Funeral Video Recording
[A simple-looking church. Joey stands at the lectern and shuffles through his notes nervously. Quiet throat clearing, muffled coughs, and restless shifting echo O.C.]
Joey: You all know me. I'm Joey, Beth's - (clears throat) Beth's husband. Um, first I just wanna say how grateful I am that you all showed up to honor Beth. She was loved by a lot of people, and I think everyone being here is a testament to that, so... Thank you also, Amandine, Dad, for speaking about Beth. I know she loved you both very much. Um, wow, I have my notes here, but it's just... it's kind of, really hard to know where to start. I, uh, I've been in love with Beth since we were fourteen years old. Our parents knew each other when we were kids, but we didn't really talk until... Well, so, I - one of my buddies dared me to go up to her in the cafeteria. Jake Goode, I'm sure you all know him. Freshman year. And I'm walking up to her, and I'm thinking, "She's amazing, and I'm just, like, this total mainbrain poser. This girl is way too good for me. Way too good." And you know, I still think that. I know that, actually.
[Joey loses his place in his notes. He shuffles through them, looks back up.]
Joey (cont'd): Sorry. So. Anyway, our whole life together passed like it was two seconds, and now we're all here, which is crazy. Just crazy. You know, normally you're supposed to talk about all the great things a person did, but I feel like I probably don't have to remind anyone of how incredible Beth was because her actions speak for themselves. Like, if anyone called, no matter how small or big the problem, I mean no matter what, she was there. She'd drop whatever she was doing and get on the phone or in her car, off to save the day. Sometimes she'd be running around so much that she'd come home, and I'd ask her "Have we met?" (joke does not land) What I mean is, Beth really cared. She made the world a better place, and she did it for the people in her life. Her sister, Gwen. Our beautiful daughter, Ruby. Her mother, Mona. My parents, Martin and Jody. This island. And me. Even when I would let her down.
[A long pause. Joey takes a deep breath.]
Joey (cont'd): I've been thinking a lot about what I would say to Beth if I could see her one more time, and - (getting emotional) I think I would just want to say I'm sorry. For everything. Just thank you for being the wonderful wife and mother and person that you were, and just, I'm so sorry. I really - Um, I think that's all I have to say. I just, thank you. I really appreciate you all being here.
[Joey folds up his notes with shaking hands.]

Solution
- The memorial service program features a numbered list of bible verses written by Reverend Clarence Reaver. By consulting the investigation guide on the desktop, this list can be identified as a book cipher. The numbers, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are referring to words within each verse, not the verse itself. Using the bible verse link and the Investigation Guide on the desktop, the coded phrase is revealed: "I must try to forgive her."

There is an article in The Lantern Magazine about a sea kayak being lost in a riptide on the eastern side of the island. The kayak was recovered at the same location where Beth's body was found.
